STANDING RULES
Sarasota Obedience Training Club, Inc.

1. The regular meeting of the club shall be held at 7:00 pm unless changed by a vote of the club.
2. These standing rules may be amended or adopted at any business meeting by a majority vote with previous notice.
3. All committees/teams shall serve from the second Wednesday in November for one year.
4. Any active club member wishing financial support of the club to attend non-SOTC sponsored training clinics shall make application in writing to the board of directors who will make the final decision.
5. An appropriate floral offering or a gift to charity will be sent upon the death of a member or an immediate relative of a member. In the event of illness, the Secretary is to send a get-well card and/or flowers.
7. It shall be noted that the club's fiscal year is from October 1 through September 30. Dues are due on October 1 for the following year. Dues must be paid and received by the Treasurer on or before October 1 to be eligible to vote during the October general membership meeting. Individual dues are $20.00 and $30.00 to include immediate significant others. Dues for six months or less shall be $10 for individuals and $15 to include immediate significant others.
8. Fees and length of classes will be decided as needed by the Training Committee, with approval by the Board. An annual review of class fees and length of classes shall be conducted by the Training Committee. These changes will be incorporated into the standing rules.

Fees for Obedience classes are as follows: Four-week Puppy Kindergarten — $65; Six-week Beginners Obedience class —$95; Other six-week classes — $95; and Five-week Really Reliable Recall — $85; Drop-in class fee — $15. Other classes will be priced as the need arises upon approval of the board. Active SOTC members will receive a $10 discount on all class fees, with the exception of the Drop-in class fee.

Fees for Agility classes are as follows: Eight-week classes — $95; Six-week classes — $75; and Four-week classes — $55;  $15 to drop-in class Agility Level 4 and higher, if class has room, with permission of instructor. Other classes will be priced as the need arises upon approval of the board. Active SOTC members will receive a $10 discount on all class fees, with the exception of the Drop-in class fee.

Club members training a dog may use half-price class cards/ trial entry certificates that they have earned.  Any member accumulating 8 hours of volunteer work at club-related activities will earn a half-price card/trial entry certificate. Such activities include, but are not limited to, working at trials, cleaning the building, doing yard or building maintenance and instructing or assisting at classes.

11. Levels of Membership are as follows:

Officers, Board Members, Registrars, Newsletter Editor, Webmaster, etc.: These members are entitled to all club benefits and free SOTC classes. The Obedience Registrar(s) may elect compensation of $30 per hour for two hours a week instead of free classes. The Agility Registrar(s) may elect compensation of $30 per hour for two hours a week instead of free classes. These members may also receive non-SOTC sponsored seminar assistance up to $200 per year. Additional funds would be available based on time volunteered outside regular position. Seminar attendees must do presentation based on information learned at seminar at a club meeting or trainers meeting.

Active Member: To be an active member, one must attend at least two club meetings (not counting the Awards Banquet). Individual members must also work 16 hours at 2 different trials a year or work 16 hours a year on other club-related activities. Those holding Family Memberships must work 24 hours at 2 different trials a year or work 24 hours a year on other club-related activities. Active members are entitled to all club benefits and hour for hour benefit compensation in terms of half-price classes or trial entry certificates.

Other Active Membership Benefits Include:

  • Free Access to building and equipment when not in use for classes
  • Half-price classes/trial entry certificates (receive 1 card for 8 hours work)
  • Non-SOTC sponsored seminar assistance, limited to $150 per year. Seminar attendees must do a presentation, at a club or trainers meeting, based on information learned at seminar.
  • Reduced-prices at club sponsored seminars and other such activities
  • Eligibility to represent SOTC at tournaments such as DACOF & DOCOF
  • Free participation in club Fun Days & other club activities
  • Reduced Rates for open practice sessions and run-thrus
  • 10% discount on collars, leads, etc.
  • Members with dogs earning titles within a club year will receive an award at the annual awards banquet
  • $10 discount on all classes offered, with the exception of drop-in class prices

New Member: New members begin membership benefits by receiving the newsletter and are eligible to attend club activities such as the Awards Banquet. New members are able to use building for a fee of $3 per hour and need to be in the company of an active member. After completing the requirements of active membership, new members will become active members and will receive all other applicable benefits.

Non-active Member: These members pay dues, receive the newsletter, attend club activities such as Awards Banquet, but receive no other club benefits

Lifetime Member: These members receive all active membership benefits, do not pay yearly dues, and are entitled to take SOTC classes for free.

12. To encourage class attendees to join the club, non-members who use SOTC facilities for practice while in the company of an active club member are subject to a fee of $5 per hour of use.
13. SOTC will hire instructors to teach Obedience and Agility classes at the rate of $30/hour. SOTC will hire assistants at the rate for $20/hour for Obedience and Agility classes. Instructors or assistants may opt to receive volunteer hours in lieu of pay. The hiring of any new instructor and assistant must be approved by the appropriate Training Committee and by the Board. All instructors and assistants must agree to and sign a contract designed by the Board as well as fill out a W-9 form. Instructors and assistants will not be eligible for half-price cards for teaching classes for which they are paid to teach. Instructors and assistants are responsible for reporting income to the IRS.
14. Any officer or board member who misses more than two consecutive board meetings without cause shall be asked to resign his/her position and a replacement will then be appointed by the board.
15. No member in good standing shall be excluded from any board meeting, special board meeting, general meeting, or special general meeting for any reason.
16. No use of SOTC endorsements or logo without express written permission of the board.
