ABOUT SOTC

Established in 1962, Sarasota Obedience Training Club, Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to the training of dogs and improving Canine/Human relationships. We, as members, volunteer our time to a cause we believe in. This cause is to help others become happy, responsible dog owners, and for your dogs to be happy, healthy and socially acceptable. All of our members are a vital part of the club. Through their suggestions and effort we become stronger and more knowledgeable each year.

The club is involved in several activities each year. We have annual obedience and agility trials; fun days, seminars and demonstrations for the public; tests for companionship and temperament; "dog-a-rama's" at the local malls and fund raising activities for homeless animals. We are sanctioned by the American Kennel Club and conduct two Obedience Trial and three Agility Trials a year where dogs can earn AKC titles. Each year, we send a team to the Dog Obedience Clubs of Florida (DOCOF) competition as well as to the Dog Agility Clubs of Florida (DACOF) competition. We support several nursing homes, local elementary and middle schools with our Pet Therapy program. We donate classes to foster families for Southeastern Guide Dogs, Inc, and Canine Companions for Independence. We have also outfitted a few police dogs with bullet-proof vests.

We have many different classes to choose from and you do NOT have to be a club member to enroll. There are Obedience, Rally, Puppy Preschool and Agility classes practically all year long. There also also Conformation Handling and Flyball classes available. Our instructors regularly attend seminars to keep current on the most effective ways to train dogs using positive training methods. Several of our instructors are accredited by national training organizations. We also offer the Reliable Recall class, which is also known as the "Save your dog's life recall". This class teaches your dog to come to you every time you call them, no matter what the circumstances are.

New Members Always Welcome! Our monthly General Meeting is held the 2nd Wednesday of every month (except December) at 7:00 p.m. at our facilities located at 1700 North Cattlemen Road, Sarasota, Florida. If you are interested in finding out more about our club or becoming a member, you are welcome to attend our General Meetings where you may also pick up a membership application.

Bottom line? If you love spending time with your dog, or if you want to know how to successfully compete with your dog, the Sarasota Obedience Training Club is for you!
