ABOUT AGILITY

Agility is a competitive sport in which handlers direct their dogs over a timed obstacle course. Dogs race against the clock as they jump over hurdles and through tires, climb and descend ramps, dart through tunnels, maneuver across see-saws and weave through a line of poles. The goal is to complete the obstacle course in the shortest possible time without any errors.
The American Kennel Club (AKC), North American Dog Agility Council (NADAC) and the United States Dog Agility Association (USDAA) all have agility events. In the NADAC and USDAA, all dogs are welcome to compete in events, both mixed-breed and pure-breed dogs alike, regardless of pedigree. The AKC agility events are open only to dogs with AKC registration.
Agility is fun for everyone! The dogs enjoy the speed, freedom and challenge. Dogs gain confidence in their abilities as they learn to jump, climb or crawl through agility obstacles. Handlers enjoy the increased bond with the dog as they spend quality time together working out the challenges of the obstacles. In addition, dog agility has become an exciting spectator sport.
Any dog with good physical agility and energy is a candidate for agility. However, keep in mind that not all breeds are well-suited to the sport because of their physical build and the athletic demands of the sport. The best way to evaluate a dog for the sport of agility is to enroll in a Puppy or Level 1 Agility Class - click HERE to get started!
